THE RETURN
MALTHOUSE THEATRE & RISING FESTIVAL 2022
Once considered ‘exotic’ trophies of antiquity, the bodily remains of Indigenous men, women, and children served scientific theories of evolution and were prized objects displayed on mantelpieces. In the cover of darkness, grave robbers would pillage burial grounds, to sell Ancestral remains to the highest bidder under the guise of scientific research. Thousands were stolen and sold.

COMMON GROUND
CHUNKY MOVE
A ritualistic battleground for two dance greats, Common Ground is a choreographic game of chess. Inspired by political feuds, historical showdowns and the intricate, moment-to-moment recalibrations required of any partnership, the work explores how supposed rules can be upturned by unexpected moves—intricate gambits, sacrifices and reactive attacks.

ANTIGRAVITY
CHUNKYMOVE & ASIATOPA
ANTIGRAVITY confronts gravity-bound bodies with the ephemeral, ever-changing cloud. Performers transform from celestial creatures to terrestrial warriors. As the clouds swell and dissipate, bodies are caught between monolithic stillness and fleeting elevation, becoming the vessels of our own imagination.

BLASTED
MALTHOUSE THEATRE 2018
This was the debut script of in-your-face playwright prodigy Sarah Kane. Her prescient dissection of our response to violence was heralded as ‘depraved’ by some, ‘tender’ by others. So ignited the polarising firestorm of Kane’s blazing career.
